Wrestling Tips

When you think of wrestling, you may imagine two guys in the air, running, and beating up each other. Well that's just a part of it. They also need to be very skilled and alert all the time otherwise, they will be on the receiving end of bad maneuvers and lose all the time. There are different kinds of wrestling but the way they fight is similar. If you want to win, you have to start at the basics.

  

Everything starts by how you place yourself and put your feet on the mat. If you're off balance, you will be thrown off very easily. Your head should be high and knees bent. Tuck elbows inside your body, balance your weight on the feet and finally hold your hands in front of you. If you plan to attack, try to hide it as long as possible.

If you want to lose a match quickly in wrestling, don't move at all. Wrestling is the exact opposite, 50% of your match will be defending yourself and 50% of it offense. To give you an edge, be very quick on your feet.

Let's say that you want to attack, then attack quickly. Do not hesitate for one second. In magic, the hands are always quicker than the eye. Well in wrestling matches, the hands will always be faster than the rest of the body. As long as your hands are ready and free, you're in control. Last tip, your eyes... it is instinct that your eyes keep looking at what you are doing. If you blink, you might be visiting the mat sooner than you think.

A little tip: go for the head! If you control your opponent's head and neck, they will almost be at your mercy. Do this by hooking their arms in an overhead or underhead maneuver. This is good to know but there are a lot more things to know and practice before you can improve and hope to score a much earned victory.

If you want at least a chance to win while you're in a wrestling match, you need to learn to defend yourself also. There are such maneuvers you can learn on the mat. Sometimes the best way to avoid being dragged left and right is to avoid being gripped by your opponent. You will see that there is more than one hold so the more maneuvers you have, the better off you will be.

Remember to move quickly and keep your balance. Try to anticipate your opponent's moves because he is likely to strike faster than you can react if you don't.
